A website, or a full e-shop? What your business really needs

“I want to sell online, I need an e-shop.” Not always. An e-shop is more expensive to build and run and only makes sense under certain conditions. A simpler presentation website often serves a business better.

When a presentation website is enough

If you offer services, have a few made-to-order products or sell mostly in person, a presentation website with a price list and an inquiry form is plenty. It’s cheaper, faster and free of the hassle of payments and inventory.

When an e-shop makes sense

An e-shop pays off when you have a larger range, sell repeatedly and want the customer to buy on their own without your involvement. That matches the higher price and more demanding operation.

Start with the smaller one

If you’re unsure, it often pays to start with a presentation website and add an e-shop once the business needs it. A custom site can be extended, so you don’t spend on something you won’t use yet.
