Cookies and GDPR: what a website must comply with and what not
A cookie banner pops up almost everywhere today and just annoys many people. The truth is that a simple presentation website often doesn’t need one at all. Let’s clear it up without panic.
When you need a banner
You mainly deal with cookie consent when the website collects data for marketing or tracking — typically third-party advertising and analytics tools. Those store cookies in the browser that require consent.
When you don’t
A static presentation site without advertising scripts and with privacy-friendly analytics often requires no banner. Less tracking means fewer obligations — and a faster, cleaner site too.
What you should have
Even so, a brief privacy policy is useful, especially if you have a contact form. People appreciate it when you clearly state what you’ll use their data for. This isn’t legal advice — for sensitive cases it pays to verify your specific obligations.
